When listed as 'FULL GEAR REQUIRED', the following equipment is mandatory:
- HELMET WITH FACE CAGE: Mandatory for all youth players and highly recommended for all players. Must be approved by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC).
- MOUTH GUARD: Mandatory for all youth players and highly recommended for all players.
- NECK GUARD/LACERATION PROTECTOR: Mandatory for all youth players (and strongly recommended for 18+) in USA Hockey sanctioned events as of August 1, 2024. HECC or BNQ certified protectors are required.
- SHOULDER PADS: Offer protection for the shoulder blades, muscles, chest, ribs, back, collar bone, and upper arms.
- ELBOW PADS: Protect the elbows and forearms. They should fit snugly, meeting the bottom of the shoulder pads and extending to the top of the gloves.
- HOCKEY PANTS: Protect the lower spine, hips, thighs, groin, waist, buttocks, and tailbone. Should overlap shin pad kneecaps by 1-2 inches.
- SHIN GUARDS: Essential for protecting the knees and shins.
- JOCK (OR JILL) WITH PROTECTIVE CUP: Crucial for groin protection.
- GLOVES: Protect the hands and forearms from sticks, pucks, and boards.
- SKATES: The most essential piece of equipment. Need to be laced tightly to prevent ankle bending.
- STICK: Used for shooting and passing. Length should generally extend from the ice to the player's chin (with skates on).
