Great Park Ice Tournaments

  • USA HOCKEY RULES will apply except as noted herein:
    • Any major penalty for fighting will result in Automatic Suspension* from the tournament.
    • Any match penalty will result in Automatic Suspension* from the tournament.
  • GAME FORMAT AND SCHEDULE:
    • No special schedule requests will be accepted.
    • Please have your team prepared to play at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
    • Players should arrive 30 to 40 minutes before game time.
    • Games will consist of three 13-minute stop time periods unless otherwise noted.
    • At the beginning of the third period or at any time during the third period there is a 5-goal differential the game will go to running time.
    • If the game returns to a 2-goal differential, the last 2 minutes will go to stop time.
    • No time outs will be permitted in Round Robin play.
      • For finals only, one 1-minute time-out will be permitted per team.
    • NO overtime in round robin play. Teams can play to a tie in round robin.
  • EQUIPMENT:
    • All players participating in The Rinks or Great Park Ice Tournaments must wear protective equipment that meets the USA Hockey requirements.
    • 12U and above are required to wear colored mouthguards.
  • HOME AND AWAY TEAMS:
    • Away team is listed first on the schedule and will wear WHITE OR LIGHT 
    • Home team is listed second on schedule and will wear DARK JERSEYS
  • LOCKER ROOMS:
    • Locker rooms will be assigned to each team.
    • Keys must be checked out by the Team Representative from the rink staff
    • Keys will be available 30 minutes before scheduled game time.
    • Team Manager or Head coach will be required to leave their car keys with the front counter staff to ensure that the locker room key is returned in a timely manner.
      • All car keys will be kept in a secure location at the rink.
    • Please keep the locker rooms as clean as possible.
    • Teams will be responsible for any damages done to the facility.
  • ROSTERS:
    • Email link to your official USA Hockey roster approved by District Registrar.
      • Your association registrar will provide you with that link.
      • Roster Link must be provided to tournament director at least 2 weeks before the first game.
    • Official Roster must include jersey numbers and goalie designations.
    • Official roster must include all coaches and managers who will participate in the tournament.
    • Players may NOT play on more than one roster at the tournament.
      • This includes girls’ and high school rosters.
    • AAA and AA Girls’ teams are allowed to play in an “A” division in the tournament.
    • Players who play at a higher level during the season may not “play down” in the tournament. For example:
      • A 12U AAA player may not play on a 12U AA/A/BB or B roster, a 12U AA player may not play on a 12U A/BB or B roster; a 12U A player may not play on a 12U BB or B roster
      • A 10U aged player who plays at the 12U level, may not play on a 10U roster.
      • Girls who play on a boys' team must play at the boy’s age categories.
    • SCORING FORMAT: Points will be awarded as follows:
      • 2 points for win
      • 1 point for tie
      • 0 point for loss
    • OFFICIAL GAME SCORES: will reflect wins of no more than 8 goals.
    • TIE BREAKERS: (If teams are tied for more than one position, ties will be broken one at a time.)
      • Most Wins
      • Head-to-head play between two tied teams.
        • If three or more teams are tied go to goal differential, but if one of these teams has beaten every team that it is tied with, that team will advance to the next available seed.
      • Goal differential (GF-GA) (All Games) **Maximum of 8 goals per game differential
      • Most goals scored.
      • Least goals against
      • Least penalty minutes
    • OVERTIME: (Semi-finals and Finals Only):
      • 4 on 4, 5-minute running-time period.
      • If still tied after 5-minute overtime, 3-man shootout.
        • Each coach is to select 3 players to shoot, most goals win.
        • No player may shoot twice until all players have shot once.
      • If tied after round of three shootouts, it becomes a single player sudden death shootout until a winner is determined.
    • OVERTIME: (Quarter Finals):
      • Quarter Final games that are tied at the end of regulation will immediately advance to a 3-man shootout.
        • Each coach is to select 3 players to shoot, most goals win.
        • No player may shoot twice until all players have shot once.
      • If tied after round of 3, it becomes a single player sudden death shootout until a winner is determined.
      • Semi Final and Final games
        • 4 on 4, 5-minute running time period.
        • If still tied after 5-minute OT, 3-man shootout.
        • Each coach is to select 3 players to shoot, most goals win. No player may shoot twice until all players have shot once.
        • If tied after round 3, it becomes a single player sudden death shootout until winner is determined.

 *Tournament suspensions are subject to review by the rules committee

The rules committee reserves the right to modify a rule herein which is deemed not in the best interest of the tournament or amateur hockey. The decision of the rules committee is final. 

  • USA Hockey rules will apply except as noted herein.
  • Coaches need to be on the ice with skates and helmets properly fastened.
  • FORMAT:
    • Each schedule 'jamboree' will consist of three 24-minute run time games, half ice.
    • 'Jamboree' sheets detailing the game schedule for each 'jamboree' will be at the check in table prior to each game.  Managers need to check in at the table prior to each game to verify scoresheets and ensure coaches are aware of the schedule and jersey colors.
  • SCOREKEEPING/STATS/STANDINGS:
    • Scores for all games during the event will be kept for standings purposes only.  No individual stats will be recorded.
    • Only final scores will be entered into Kreezee for online standings.
    • Scoring Format: 2 points awarded for win, 1 point for tie, 0 points for loss.
    • No overtime for preliminary rounds.  Semi-Finals and Championship games, if the game is tied it will go to a 5-minute run time, sudden death OT.  If still tied after OT, a 1-man shootout until winner is chosen.
  • ALL GAMES MUST BEGIN ON TIME. Teams need to be prepared to take the ice at least 15 minutes before scheduled start time.
  • PENALTIES:
    • MINOR PENALTIES:
      • Any penalty considered to be a minor penalty as defined by the USA Hockey 8U rulebook shall result in a penalty shot with no stoppage of play.
      • Immediate substitution of the offending player on ice (for coaching purposes)
      • Any player that receives 3 minor penalties within a single 24-minute mini game shall be removed for the remainder of the mini game.
      • Any player that receives 5 minor penalties within a single game will be removed for the remainder of the 'jamboree' (all three mini games).
    • MAJOR PENALTIES
      • Any penalty considered to be a major penalty as defined by the USA Hockey 8U rulebook shall result in immediate removal of that player for the remainder of the tournament.
    • FIGHTING/INTENT TO INJURE
      • Any players engaged in fighting will be immediately removed from the ice and suspended for the duration of the tournament.
      • Any player who commits an infraction with intent to injure another will be immediately removed from the ice and suspended for the duration of the tournament.
  • LINE CHANGES
    • No line changes should result in an unfair advantage toward one team due to lack of players changing.
    • If all players on the ice aren't changing, the players remaining must touch their teams' bench with their stick before returning to play to assure no unfair advantage is gained.
  • STOPPAGES
    • Referees shall conduct a center ice face off in these situations:
      • At the beginning of the mini game
      • After a goal
      • After a successful penalty shot
    • Referees will not conduct a center ice faceoff, but rather the specified team will begin with puck behind their goal with the opposing team 10-feet from the net:
      • When the goalie has frozen the puck
      • After an unsuccessful penalty shot
  • Prior to each 'jamboree' coaches must meet to decide jersey colors for the 4 teams participating, to ensure no overlap of colors.
